AMINA Bank AG (“AMINA Bank”), the Swiss-based crypto banking group, announced that its newly formed Austrian subsidiary AMINA (Austria) AG (“AMINA EU”) has obtained a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license. This license was obtained from Austria’s Financial Market Authority (Austria) (“FMA”) under the Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation (“MiCAR”) framework.
AMINA Bank is the first crypto banking group to go after an Austrian subsidiary and get a MiCA license. As a result, the license will allow AMINA EU to provide the following regulated services: crypto trading, custody, and portfolio management. Also, it will offer staking to professional investors, including family offices, corporates, and financial institutions.
Strengthening Presence Across Europe
Thanks to its robust regulatory framework and high standards for investor protection, Austria was the preferred location. It serves as AMINA EU’s first point of contact in Europe. The green light from the authorities is the main reason the company can broaden its business quickly across the EU. They have already submitted notifications in 13 different European countries and will be present in more than 30 markets soon.
Franz Bergmueller, CEO of AMINA Bank, said that the MiCA CASP license further demonstrates the group’s commitment to the highest regulatory standards. It also demonstrates its global client-first approach. He noted that the license, together with the group’s existing licenses in Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Abu Dhabi, enables the bank to deliver market-leading services. These services are built for scale, security, and long-term success.
Eckehard Stolz, Managing Director of AMINA EU, commented that professional investors in Europe are seeking secure, regulated access to crypto. AMINA’s combination of Swiss banking expertise and Austrian regulatory strength creates the trusted infrastructure to bridge traditional finance and crypto.
With effect from December 2024 MiCAR framework will serve as a Europe-wide single regulatory system for crypto-asset service providers. It ensures comprehensive regulation across the European Union. AMINA EU is allowed under this license to provide the services of crypto-assets custody, crypto-assets exchange for fiat or other crypto-assets. It also provides crypto-assets transfer and portfolio management of crypto-assets. These services can be offered throughout the EU.
In summary, AMINA Bank’s acquisition of a MiCA license via its Austrian subsidiary marks a major step in the banking group’s EU growth strategy. It enables regulated, institutional-grade crypto services under European law. It also strengthens AMINA’s position in bridging the gap between traditional banking and digital assets.
