Marqeta Scales Regional Presence by Expanding Portfolio of Account and Money Movement Tools Across Europe

Marqeta announced the expansion of its account and money movement tools into 30 additional European countries today. The company achieved this geographic growth through a strategic relationship with Banking Circle. Banking Circle is a global bank licensed in Luxembourg. It is regulated by the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier. This rollout allows regional businesses to enrich card programs with multi-rail payment capabilities.

The expansion builds on excellent financial momentum for the modern card issuing platform. Marqeta achieved eightfold growth in total processing volume for European card programs from 2022 to 2025. Additionally, the corporate footprint grew through the acquisition of TransactPay in 2025. That purchase brought full program management to customers across Europe. Marqeta now enables fully licensed e-money capabilities to support international payments.

European Payment Infrastructure Upgrades

The comprehensive platform complies fully with local regulatory requirements. It successfully meets all regional guidelines for PSD2 and GDPR. Furthermore, the platform simplifies the entire process of launching card programs across borders. Marqeta provides full regional management, including card fulfillment, fraud management, and dispute resolution. It also manages BIN sponsorship, reporting, and reconciliations.

“Europe represents one of our most important growth markets, and bringing these tools to multinational and regional businesses enables them to build the innovative payment experiences that are crucial to their success. By providing a single platform for card issuing, account and money movement, and program management, we’re enabling our customers to launch and scale the card programs their customers rely on with greater simplicity, flexibility, and efficiency,” said Anthony Peculic, the Interim Chief Product Officer at Marqeta.

“Banking Circle’s mission has always been to make global payments faster, simpler, and more accessible for businesses. Our relationship with Marqeta combines full account functionality and money movement capabilities with a proven card issuing platform, giving businesses in Europe a powerful foundation for building financial products that simplify how money moves,” said Mikkel Gronlykke, the President of Banking Circle.

The expanded portfolio provides essential features like digital wallet functionality linked to a debit card. Such digital wallets accept several currencies and offer secure money storage services. In addition to that, quick integration with payment systems enables processing of United Kingdom transactions within seconds, providing close-to-real-time money movement capabilities. Moreover, business entities may leverage SEPA Credit and SEPA Instant within all 40 countries that are members of SEPA. The upgraded SEPA Instant service operates 24/7/365 to transfer money in under 10 seconds.
