Thredd, the AI-first issuer processing platform, has expanded its payments platform with stablecoin payments capabilities. The company introduced the capabilities through a partnership with Velocity. Velocity is a stablecoin treasury and settlement platform bringing enterprises onchain. The partnership adds stablecoin money movement to Thredd’s existing payments infrastructure. As a result, Thredd clients can access new options for moving and settling funds globally.
Clients can now convert between fiat currencies and supported stablecoins. They can also send funds on-chain or through connected fiat rails. Additionally, clients can use stablecoins for funding, payouts, and settlement. The initial rollout will target B2B and B2B2B applications. These applications include stablecoin-backed card programmes and cross-border payouts. They also cover global treasury flows and on-chain settlement.
Thredd clients will now be able to convert between fiat currencies and supported stablecoins, send funds on-chain or through connected fiat rails, and use stablecoins for funding, payouts and settlement.
“Stablecoins are rapidly becoming an important part of global payments infrastructure, but clients should not have to rebuild their payments stack to take advantage of them,” said Jim McCarthy, CEO, Thredd. “By bringing stablecoin money movement into the Thredd platform, we can connect the issuing and processing capabilities our clients already rely on with new ways to move, convert and settle funds. It’s about giving clients more flexibility while maintaining the controls, reliability and operational support they expect from Thredd.”
Stablecoin Payments Expand Across Global Use Cases
To support the new capabilities, Thredd selected Velocity as a strategic technology partner. Velocity will provide the stablecoin infrastructure required for the offering. The company will provide programmable wallet infrastructure and blockchain connectivity. It will also connect banking rails with liquidity and conversion capabilities.
Furthermore, Velocity will provide orchestration for transfers and settlement. This infrastructure will support the movement of funds across different payment environments.
“The real opportunity with stablecoins isn’t a new asset, it’s a more programmable way for businesses to move and manage money globally,” said Eric Queathem, CEO and founder of Velocity. “Thredd’s platform is already trusted by some of the most sophisticated card programmes in the market, and this partnership gives those clients a practical way to use stablecoin rails inside an environment they already know. That’s where stablecoins get powerful: not as a separate crypto product, but as infrastructure embedded in the systems businesses already use.”
For issuers and programme managers, stablecoin payments can affect the economics of global card programmes. The approach can reduce the amount of capital held idle across different markets. It can also reduce certain prefunding and collateral requirements. Meanwhile, settlement funds can move across currencies and geographic markets.
This movement can operate without the limitations of traditional correspondent banking hours. It can also reduce reliance on lengthy intermediary chains. In addition, businesses will not need to create a separate onchain workflow. Instead, the capabilities will operate through the broader Thredd payments environment.
Thredd Connects Stablecoin Infrastructure With Payments
Thredd will connect the stablecoin infrastructure with its existing payments capabilities. These capabilities include its ledger, APIs, and issuer processing services. The platform will also connect card controls with fraud and risk services. Reconciliation and operational support will remain part of the broader environment. As a result, clients will have one commercial and technical entry point. They can use this entry point to manage how value is held, moved, and spent.
The approach is designed to simplify stablecoin adoption for businesses. It also connects emerging blockchain payment capabilities with established payment operations. The planned offering will operate as a global capability. However, commercial availability will begin on a market-by-market basis. Thredd will consider regulatory readiness during each market rollout. Partner readiness and product readiness will also influence availability.
The partnership therefore expands Thredd’s payments platform while introducing stablecoin money movement capabilities. It also gives B2B and B2B2B clients additional options for global payments. Through Velocity’s infrastructure, clients can access stablecoin rails alongside existing payment capabilities. This approach supports funding, payouts, treasury activity, and settlement. Ultimately, the offering aims to bring stablecoin infrastructure into established payment workflows. It provides businesses with additional ways to manage global money movement through a connected platform.
