BlackRock Expands Digital Assets Offerings with Bitcoin Premium Income ETF

Bitcoin Premium Income ETF

BlackRock has introduced the Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, expanding its digital assets portfolio. The newly launched investment option serves both growth and income investors.

The Bitcoin Premium Income ETF invests in Bitcoin while giving returns on a monthly basis. This is achieved by the use of an options strategy. The newly launched Bitcoin ETF comprises spot Bitcoin and the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF.

Additionally, the fund writes call options on a portion of its holdings. This strategy enables them to earn premiums without compromising much of their exposure to bitcoin. Thus, the investor stands to gain both from the movement in prices as well as income generation.

“A significant segment of our client base is interested in bitcoin but is also highly focused on income generation,” said Robert Mitchnick, Head of Digital Assets at BlackRock. “BITA was built in response to that demand, enabling investors to retain the majority of their bitcoin upside exposure while capturing potential income through a convenient exchange-traded structure.”

The BITA fund also emphasizes tax efficiency and the flexibility of its investments. They make use of a platform that seeks optimal treatment of capital gains for maximum efficiency. Additionally, the investor can reduce any gains by making losses. BlackRock further enhances its digital asset offerings with this product. They currently have popular offerings such as IBIT and Ethereum-based ETFs, among others.

“BITA applies BlackRock’s proven options capabilities to our established digital assets platform – purpose-built for investors with long-term bitcoin conviction who also want to put that allocation to work,” said Jessica Tan, Head of Americas for Global Product Solutions at BlackRock. “Delivering a strategy like BITA at scale requires deep ETP and options expertise, rigorous risk management, and scalable infrastructure capabilities that iShares delivers every day.”
