Canopy today announced general availability of Tax Workflow Automation. Canopy is the all-in-one practice management software designed to help accountants build an autonomous firm. This AI-powered suite takes tax work from the first document request to the signed, paid return. Moreover, everything runs in one connected workflow. With new task-template automations, firms can now send every client a personalized questionnaire and document checklist in bulk. As a result, the long-standing tradeoff between scale and a personal client experience comes to an end.
Firms have historically faced a tough choice between automation and personalization. They could send one standard organizer to every client at scale. Otherwise, they could build each questionnaire and checklist by hand. Today’s release removes that choice. A firm now sets up intake once in a task template. Then it applies that template to hundreds of clients at a time. Canopy generates a questionnaire and document checklist tailored to each client. The platform sends both automatically when the workflow reaches the right step.
“Tax season shouldn’t depend on how many hours your team can work,” said Davis Bell, Canopy CEO. “With this release, Canopy firms can automate the busywork from intake to delivery and still give every client a personal experience. This is what the autonomous firm looks like in practice.”
Three Connected Modules Power the Suite
The Canopy Tax Workflow Automation suite includes three connected modules.
- Smart Intake generates client-specific questionnaires and document checklists. It also recognizes, renames, and files uploaded documents. This module saves firms 20 to 50 minutes per client.
- Smart Prep sends client documents to integrated AI preparation partners. These partners populate returns four times faster, with 50 to 70 percent less manual work.
- Smart Delivery reads the finished return and builds a guided flow. In that flow, clients review the return, sign the 8879, and pay their invoice. Firms can also require payment before the return is released. This module saves firms 45 to 90 minutes per return.
Davis Bell on the Autonomous Firm in Practice
In addition, the suite lets firms replace up to five separate tax-season tools. Those tools include organizers, document requests, and return delivery. They also include e-signature with identity verification and payment collection. Consequently, firms can manage the whole tax season from a single platform. This release marks one more step toward what Canopy is building for its customers. That vision is an autonomous firm, where routine work runs on its own. Meanwhile, accountants spend their time on clients. Firms can find more information at getcanopy.com.
