ConnexPay, the unified payments platform connecting customer PayIns with supplier PayOuts, has expanded its virtual cards capabilities to mobile wallets. The new capability allows eligible virtual cards to be securely provisioned to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. As a result, users can make tap-to-pay purchases without downloading a separate application.
ConnexPay now enables companies to send virtual cards directly to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. This feature lets you make secure tap-to-pay transactions without a plastic card or another mobile app. “Meanwhile, virtual cards and digital wallets are growing in importance across the payments industry. The research firm expects the global transaction value of virtual cards will hit $17.4 trillion by 2029.
In 2025, the market was worth $5.2 trillion. That is a projected increase of 235 per cent over the period. Digital wallets are also growing their role at physical points of sale. 17% of U.S. transaction value is accounted for by digital wallets, according to Worldpay’s Global Payments Report 2026. In addition, digital wallet adoption is growing at almost three times the rate of overall point-of-sale growth. These trends indicate an increasingly integrated relationship between virtual cards and mobile payment experiences.
“Virtual cards have traditionally given businesses tremendous control over how payments are made, but their use has largely been limited to online and remote transactions,” said Ben Peters, CEO of ConnexPay. “By enabling virtual cards for mobile wallets, we’re extending that same control to in-person payments. A card that exists entirely in the digital world can now be used at the physical point of sale just like a physical card.”
Virtual Cards Bring More Flexibility to In-Person Payments
ConnexPay’s latest capability brings virtual card security and control to physical payment environments. Businesses can issue a virtual card and make it available through a recipient’s existing mobile wallet. Recipients can then use the card for tap-to-pay transactions at physical points of sale. Therefore, businesses do not need to wait for physical cards to arrive.
It also helps the users not to worry about downloading and managing one more application. It’s makes a more convenient way of paying with the possibility to control expenses as well. It has the ability to cover different urgent cases requiring physical contact to authorize payment, for instance, a company wants to provide reimbursement to an employee in the course of his trip.
The feature also can assist with hotel front-desk payments when instant access to funds is required. It can also be used for corporate travel and expense programs. The capability can also be used by businesses for vendor payments at physical points of sale. In all of these instances, companies can provide virtual card payments and still retain control over spend.
ConnexPay adds physical Mastercard cards
ConnexPay has also extended its issuing capabilities with Mastercard Physical Cards. It gives businesses an additional method of payment in case they prefer or need physical cards. Existing virtual card customers can add Physical Cards without altering their existing issuing programs. Nor do they need to spend the time rebuilding their existing payment infrastructure. Businesses will also be able to tap into ConnexPay’s existing payment management capabilities. These are spend controls and configurable payment limits.
Merchant category restrictions and program management tools are also part of the offering. ConnexPay also allows businesses to stay in touch with available rebate opportunities. These types of capabilities give businesses more flexibility in various payment scenarios. The company can select the payment credential according to the requirement of the transaction.
Businesses can still get traditional virtual cards for digital transactions. They can also tap and pay for purchases at brick-and-mortar locations with mobile wallets. Companies can opt, where applicable, to issue physical cards for face-to-face payment situations. Now ConnexPay’s enhanced issuing capabilities bring together virtual, mobile and physical payment options on its single payments platform.
