Mastercard Expands AI-Powered Tools to Strengthen Agentic Commerce
Mastercard is advancing agentic commerce with new AI-powered tools, expanded consulting services, and global technology partnerships. These initiatives aim to create smarter and safer shopping experiences while setting global standards for secure AI-driven payments.
Building the Future of AI Shopping
Mastercard is partnering with Stripe, Google, and Ant International’s Antom to make agentic transactions more scalable for merchants worldwide. By the holiday season, all U.S. Mastercard cardholders will gain access to the Mastercard Agent Pay program, with a global rollout planned soon after.
Citi and U.S. Bank customers will be the first to experience these AI-enabled payments. Meanwhile, enablers like PayOS and other industry players are preparing to support this new wave of intelligent transactions.
New Tools to Accelerate Adoption
To help developers and businesses adopt agentic commerce quickly, Mastercard introduced several innovations:
- Agent Toolkit: Available on Mastercard Developers, it helps AI assistants use Mastercard APIs through structured, machine-readable documentation.
- Agent Sign-Up: A streamlined process allowing developers to register agents and connect to Mastercard AI-powered services.
- Insight Tokens: A secure method enabling agents to use permissioned insights for more personalized customer experiences, already backed by SAP Concur.
- Agentic Consulting Services: Expert guidance to help issuers, acquirers, and merchants design and launch intelligent commerce solutions.
These tools simplify integration, accelerate onboarding, and empower businesses to deliver better customer experiences.
Setting Standards for Secure AI Payments
Mastercard is working with the FIDO Alliance and its Payments Working Group to establish global standards for agentic payments. Together, they are building verifiable credential standards that confirm payment details like amount, merchant, and product.
This ensures transactions are transparent, approved by the shopper, and protected by secure frameworks. Mastercard’s role echoes its success in global standards such as contactless payments and tokenization.
Laying the Groundwork for Agentic Experiences
“AI-powered payments are not just a trend; they represent a transformation,” said Craig Vosburg, Chief Services Officer at Mastercard. “We are creating the infrastructure for intelligent transactions, where AI agents act with trust and precision.”
Jorn Lambert, Chief Product Officer at Mastercard, added, “We are collaborating with partners to build the tools and standards required for secure and scalable agentic commerce.”
Mastercard’s infrastructure is ready to support real-world agentic transactions today, while also preparing for global adoption as AI-driven commerce expands.
