Ripple Broadens Strategic Digital Asset Partnership with BNY in Custody and Tokenized Trade Finance

BNY

Ripple, a provider of blockchain solutions for traditional and digital finance, has expanded its strategic collaboration with BNY. The partnership aims to strengthen institutional digital asset custody and explore blockchain applications, including tokenized trade finance.

This partnership will involve leveraging the digital asset solutions and the XRP Ledger of Ripple with the financial services platform and digital prowess of BNY Mellon to help institutionalize blockchain-based financial services.

Expanding Institutional Digital Asset Custody

BNY has been providing its service as the main custodian of RLUSD stablecoin issued by Ripple. In addition to this, BNY acts as the custodian of Ripple Prime. Moreover, BNY is now providing its service as the custodian of XRP and RLUSD.

The platform allows institutions to secure, store, and move their digital assets. In addition, it combines custodial services with the governance, control, and resiliency of BNY Mellon.

Monica Long, President of Ripple, highlighted the growing role of tokenized assets in financial markets.

“We’re moving past the initial issuance of assets onchain now, it’s all about making these tokenized assets usable for payments and collateral across financial markets,” said Monica Long, President of Ripple. “With BNY, we’re connecting the necessary components of financial infrastructure on the XRP Ledger so institutions can move from holding digital assets to using them within capital markets and trade finance seamlessly.”

Carolyn Weinberg, Chief Innovation and Market Transformation Officer at BNY, emphasized the importance of connecting traditional financial systems with blockchain infrastructure.

“Future market infrastructure will deliver connectivity across payments, liquidity, collateral and securities, driven by architected bridges between traditional scaled systems and always-on blockchain technology,” said Carolyn Weinberg, Chief Innovation and Market Transformation Officer at BNY. “In collaboration with Ripple, we are working to shape a more continuous, efficient and resilient financial system, paving the way for broader institutional adoption.”

Advancing Tokenized Trade Finance

BNY intends to increase its assistance with tokenized securities and investment instruments that have been launched via XRPL. Furthermore, the two organizations intend to facilitate the minting and redemption of RLUSD by BNY customers through BNY.

On the other hand, Ripple and BNY are currently investigating opportunities for tokenized trade finance on the XRPL network. Tokenization is a method that involves representing assets such as receivables through blockchain.

As an initial step, the companies are exploring a supply chain finance initiative with C2FO, a global working capital platform.

Ragui Selwanes, President and COO Americas at C2FO, highlighted the opportunity to improve financing infrastructure.

“We’ve spent years building a platform that gives businesses more information and control over their working capital. The next opportunity is to make the financial infrastructure behind our marketplace as efficient and connected as the experience we’ve created for customers,” said Ragui Selwanes, President & COO Americas at C2FO. “Working with Ripple and BNY and leveraging XRPL, we are excited to explore how a new model for financing approved receivables has the potential to broaden access to capital while preserving the relationships and experience our customers already trust.”

Supporting Institutional Blockchain Adoption

The market cap of RLUSD has now gone up to around $2.5 billion, providing services of payments, trading, and tokenized finance. On the other hand, XRPL has completed more than 4.6 billion transactions since its inception, with the time taken for settlement being just three to five seconds.
