Klarna Rolls Out Consumer FX, Letting Shoppers Buy Worldwide in Their Own Currency

Currency

Klarna Group Plc (NYSE: KLAR), the everyday finance network, today launched Klarna Consumer FX. The new feature lets shoppers buy from any participating Klarna merchant in the world. Shoppers pay in their own currency, and Klarna charges no exchange fee.

Klarna shows the price and exchange rate upfront. Moreover, both details stay visible in the Klarna app after purchase. As a result, shoppers see no surprises on their statements. This approach removes a common pain point for global online shoppers.

Klarna Consumer FX Opens Global Sales for Merchants

Consequently, any Klarna-connected merchant can sell to Klarna’s 120 million consumers in 26 countries. Merchants need no new integration to start. They also need no local entity or foreign bank account. Meanwhile, Klarna handles FX disclosure, consent, and compliance. Therefore, retailers can focus on selling rather than on cross-border paperwork.

Early results show clear benefits for sellers. Merchants gain a 5% lift in conversion. They also see 6% growth in sales. Klarna credits the expanded reach for these gains. Overall, wider access to global shoppers helps merchants grow revenue.

Klarna executive David Sykes explained the thinking behind the launch.

“Increasingly, shoppers aren’t thinking in borders,” says David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer, Klarna, “Consumer FX enables consumers to use our payment options on any Klarna merchant, regardless of country or currency, driving additional value across our global network.”

Cross-Border Shopping Trends Drive the Launch

The launch comes as cross-border payments grow globally. DHL reports that 70% of 2026 shoppers buy internationally.1 That share rises 10% from 2025. Furthermore, 45% of shoppers buy across borders more than once a month. Clearly, online shoppers now expect to buy from stores anywhere. Therefore, simple currency conversion matters more than ever for e-commerce brands.

Klarna now connects 120 million active consumers across 26 countries. The network also includes more than 1.2 million live merchants. Notably, that merchant base grew 54% year over year. Klarna Consumer FX is live across all of Klarna’s markets and currencies. Supported currencies include USD, EUR, GBP, SEK, NOK, DKK, CAD, AUD, NZD, and MXN.

To summarize, Klarna Consumer FX removes the typical barriers to shopping internationally. Shoppers like to see prices clearly and pay in their own currency. Merchants get new customers without any additional setup. These benefits make the global payments network of Klarna even stronger.
