Uptiq Introduces GovernAI, Bringing Bank-Grade AI Governance to Financial Institutions

GovernAI

Uptiq, the bank-grade AI platform for financial institutions, has launched Uptiq GovernAI. The new AI governance tool gives banks, credit unions, and lenders full visibility, auditability, and role-based control over AI agent activity. Uptiq made the announcement from Austin, Texas, through Business Wire. All Uptiq customers can use GovernAI immediately at no additional cost.

GovernAI is a tool that allows businesses to monitor and control the operation of agents regardless of the platform employed in their development. It is mainly used to manage a unified register of agents operating in the company. Moreover, it serves as a reliable basis of every AI-based agent in the organization. Finally, the tool makes it possible to assess the performance of agents independently from one another.

Now, employees are working with a growing roster of AI agents. Therefore, financial institutions are exposed to growing regulatory and operational risk. GovernAI assists them in addressing those challenges. It also removes the compliance bottlenecks that impede AI adoption. It gives examiners and boards source level evidence, deterministic outputs and complete audit trails.

Uptiq delivers governance as an active, day-to-day operational console. The console determines agent behavior, data access, model selection, user activity, and outputs over time.

“Every bank, credit union, and lender I talk to wants AI working across the institution. What holds them back is not the technology. It’s the question their board and examiners will ask: can you prove what it did and why?” said Gagan Kanjlia, Chief Banking Officer at Uptiq. “GovernAI answers that question. It gives institutions the controls they expect from core banking systems, applied to every agent they deploy.”

Answering the Examiner’s Question

AI in lending and banking only works with strong governance. However, general-purpose AI tools were not built for regulated institutions. Uptiq built governance into its platform from the ground up. Consequently, risk, compliance, and IT teams manage every agent in one place.

Regulators always ask banks the same question: “Show me why the agent said that.” GovernAI answers it directly through two core capabilities.

Auditability and transparency: A credit officer may review an AI-prepared credit memo. GovernAI then displays the exact source document behind every figure. It also shows the specific internal policy implemented, the specific model version deployed, and the entire approval chain.

Scale and Control of Operations: A risk officer could scale up an agent rollout to 20 lenders. In that case GovernAI needs role-based permissions and human sign-off at defined stages. It also tracks usage and costs at a team level. It also runs regression tests before going live. These tests guarantee that policy updates do not change agent outputs.

Built for Regulated Banking Environments

Uptiq separates its platform from generic AI tools and fragmented point solutions. Its agents operate strictly from the institution’s proprietary policies, products, pricing, and rate sheets. Likewise, GovernAI returns consistent, repeatable answers to identical queries. Financial risk management demands that level of reliability.

Every output links directly to underlying evidence and an audit trail. Built-in governance also applies natively across every agent on the platform. Therefore, institutions no longer need to manage separate tools. Uptiq also gives institutions full control over model selection. Updating or swapping underlying models does not require them to rebuild governance frameworks.

What the Industry Reports

Financial institutions are moving beyond early AI pilots. Meanwhile, risk management and regulatory scrutiny have become the central focus for executive leadership.

“Financial institutions are eager to deploy AI across lending and operational workflows, but regulatory risk and audit requirements remain a primary bottleneck to enterprise-wide adoption,” noted Gilles Ubaghs, executive advisor at Datos Insights. “Solutions that offer real-time visibility, and clear audit trails address the precise operational challenges banks face today.”

“AI will reshape how financial institutions operate, but only if those organizations can trust it. The institutions that pull ahead will be those that govern AI as rigorously as they govern capital and credit. Control isn’t a constraint to innovation. It’s what makes innovation possible at scale,” said Doug Hogan, president and CEO at TransPecos Banks.

“ValueBuddy delivers SBA valuations to banks and credit unions. Our clients answer to examiners on every loan, so the work behind each valuation has to hold up. We needed a platform we could trust with that standard. Uptiq was built for regulated institutions from day one, and that let us bring AI workflows into our valuation work without asking our lender clients to take on new risk,” said Ace McGill, founder and CEO at ValueBuddy.

GovernAI Features and Planned Updates

GovernAI launches with these features:

  • Agent Registry: Registers and manages agents built on all major agentic platforms.
  • Knowledge Hub: Stores the financial institution’s products, policies, and procedures.
  • Authority Grid: Provides a granular, positive- and negative-permission-based multi-approval system for agents and humans.
  • Cost Management: Tracks usage and cost by agent and team.
  • Evaluator: Tests agents pre- and post-execution. Performance, Compliance and Task Completion rate are evaluated by the scorecard.
  • Auditor: Provides auditor-ready reports with underlying traces and logs for each user and agent action, as well as a complete audit trail and activity logging.
  • RBAC – Offers role-based access management for users and agents, encompassing role-based user management and team permissions.
  • And Uptiq has more updates coming. These include support for exam-ready report exports, policy-as-code validation and enterprise and team editions. More enterprise features will follow in future releases.
