Mastercard Brings Samsung Pay to Morocco, Giving Cardholders More Mobile Payment Options

Mastercard

Mastercard is backing the launch of Samsung Pay in Morocco. Consumers gain more choice for secure, convenient mobile payments with this move. The service is powered by Mastercard’s tokenization technology. Participating banks’ eligible Mastercard cardholders can make payments using compatible Samsung devices. The service offers the convenience of everyday use with the security of built-in payment protection.

Expanding its partnership with financial institutions and technology partners, Mastercard has extended its offering to enable more choice for consumers in the digital payment ecosystem in Morocco. With the extension of its solution to Samsung Pay, Mastercard can offer greater choice in how consumers pay.

“With Samsung Pay, we want making a payment to feel as natural as using your smartphone or smartwatch. This launch marks another step in our commitment to providing Galaxy users with innovations that are simple, secure, and genuinely useful in everyday life. We would like to thank participating banks and Mastercard for their trust and collaboration, and we are proud to contribute to this digital transformation,” said Hongseok Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Maghreb Arab.

How Tokenization Safeguards Samsung Pay in Morocco

Samsung Pay uses tokenization technology which is already an established solution from Mastercard in Morocco. This provides a unique digital token instead of using card data. This protects consumers’ payment credentials. Additional security is provided by authorisation and risk based solutions. Consumers can pay with ease.

The launch supports Mastercard’s global objective. We plan to tokenize 100% of online transactions by 2030. Working with banks and technology partners we aim to provide a more secure and ease of use for digital payments.

Mohamed Benomar, Country Manager of North West Africa, Mastercard, said, “At Mastercard, we believe the future of payments should give people more choice, greater convenience and confidence in every transaction. Supporting Samsung Pay in Morocco is another important step in expanding access to secure digital payment experiences, underpinned by our tokenization technology: Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES). Beyond introducing another way to pay, our ambition is to make digital payments faster, simpler, and more secure.”

For consumers, Samsung Pay means paying with a compatible Samsung device. Supported transactions need no physical card. Participating financial institutions can offer eligible cardholders an additional digital payment experience. Likewise, merchants that accept supported contactless payments can welcome this extra option. Together, these capabilities expand choice across the payment ecosystem.

Joint Campaign to Drive Samsung Pay Adoption

Mastercard and Samsung will also launch a joint campaign in Morocco. “The campaign is meant to help accelerate the everyday adoption of Samsung Pay. It mixes promotional activity with consumer education. Compatible Samsung devices will teach consumers to pay simple and secure. Ultimately, the initiative is to help the long-term growth of digital payments across the country.
